Synopsis
Below is the synopsis from the God’s Not Dead 3 website.
A church destroyed. A congregation silenced. A relationship shattered. Yet even in life’s darkest valleys, a small flame can light the way toward healing and hope.
A deadly fire rips through St. James Church, devastating the congregation and Pastor Dave. Adjoining Hadleigh University uses the tragedy to kick the congregation off campus. The escalating controversy creates a dilemma for the small church—can Christians fight for their rights and be the light for Christ at the same time?
Facing a court case and his own struggle to see Christ’s light in heartbreak, Dave asks for help from Pearce, his estranged brother—a big-city lawyer and an atheist—to fight for the church’s right to exist. The family reunion opens old wounds, as the brothers wrestle with the questions that pulled them apart years ago: Is God really good all the time? Where is God when bad things happen? Can Christ really heal the brokenhearted?
Pure Flix presents GOD’S NOT DEAD: A LIGHT IN DARKNESS—featuring a star-studded cast, including David A.R. White, John Corbett, Ted McGinley, Shane Harper, Jennifer Taylor, Benjamin Onyango, with special appearances by Dr. Cissy Houston and Tatum O’Neal.
Coming to theaters nationwide March 30, 2018, GOD’S NOT DEAD: A LIGHT IN DARKNESS is a powerful reminder that in all circumstances, we are called to be a light for Jesus to a world in desperate need of hope.
Prior Two Movies
If you haven’t watched the first two movies, I would highly recommend you watch them before watching God’s Not Dead 3. I have enjoyed both God’s Not Dead and God’s Not Dead 2 movies. Click on those links to see those views of those two movies. This film is done via PureFlix.
GOD’S NOT DEAD: A LIGHT IN DARKNESS is the latest addition in the film franchise, which started with GOD’S NOT DEAD, the highest-grossing independent faith film of 2014, taking in more than $60 million at the box office.
“Audiences have continued to show support and interest in the GOD’S NOT DEAD films and their relatable characters who endure similar challenges in their personal faith and lives,” says Michael Scott, Pure Flix founding partner. “Our hope is that these films offer entertainment and encouragement, with a starting point for sharing faith in a respectable and compassionate manner.”
Cast
Filmed on location in Little Rock, Arkansas, GOD’S NOT DEAD: A LIGHT IN DARKNESS stars David A.R. White (GOD’S NOT DEAD), Emmy Award® and Golden Globe® nominee John Corbett (MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING), Shane Harper (GOD’S NOT DEAD), Ted McGinley (Married with Children), Jennifer Taylor (Two and a Half Men), and Academy Award® winner Tatum O’Neal (PAPER MOON).
Additional cast includes Emmy Award® winner Gregory Alan Williams, Mike C. Manning, Samantha Boscarino, rap artist Shwayze, Jennifer Cipolla, and music legend Dr. Cissy Houston. Reprising their roles from GOD’S NOT DEAD are actors Shane Harper (“Josh”) and Benjamin Onyango (“Reverend Jude”).
You will see familiar characters from the first two God’s Not Dead movies, more so the first. I enjoyed watching this third installment of the God’s Not Dead Movie series. I actually thought it was one of my favorite ones of the three. It kept me wanting to watch. I will also admit, I cried a lot in this movie. So if you go watch it in the theater, bring some tissues! Seeing familiar characters such as Pastor Dave and Pastor Jude in all three of them, its like you knew them personally. What ever happened to them in this movie you could feel their pain.
The Gospel
I did see several times where the gospel was presented in the movie too. Bible references too.
The Flow
God’s Not Dead 3 did flow rather well from scene to scene. I believe the acting was well done and the cinematography. The story line sure did keep me into the movie too. Some of the film seemed darkish, but you have to think a lot of what went on was dark too.
Other Tid-Bits
I didn’t notice any bad language. There was very little violence in the movie. I did notice there was some drinking in the movie. One of the characters dies in the movie too. So there is death in this movie too, just like in the first God’s Not Dead. I won’t say who, to spoil that.
An Impact
I do believe this movie will impact many people. I do know if you are a fan of God’s Not Dead movies, you will enjoy this movie very much. I do know that there might be a lot of heat from the adversary … the devil on this movie too. But, those attacks just show how much of an impact the movie had.

That one for each hand! I highly recommend everyone to watch this movie!

God’s Not Dead 4?
I wonder if they plan to make a God’s Not Dead 4, I know in God’s Not Dead 2, I figured it would be more about Pastor Dave not turning in his sermon notes, but that wasn’t the case. However, you do see a scene about that. This movie reminds me of today … this kind of stuff is going on right now. However, with one scene, of a character dying, I don’t think a God’s Not Dead 4 will be the same anymore. But, I am sure they could pull it off somehow.
Endorsements
I agree with both of these statements of endorsements.
Lee Strobel, author of The Case for Christ and The Case for Miracles
“It’s been said that truth alone is too hard; love alone is too soft. How do we as Christians stand for truth, while still reflecting God’s love? God’s Not Dead: A Light in Darkness creatively explores this enduring issue. It’s both a poignant drama to enjoy, as well as a powerful story to learn from.”
Billy Hallowell, Senior Editor at Faithwire
“God’s Not Dead: A Light in Darkness offers fans an inspirational, thought provoking and faith-affirming journey. The latest film in the franchise is a must-see feature that delivers a powerful and timely message for us all.”
Show Your Support
Go show your support and watch this movie! Be sure to bring Kleenex! I mean a lot! I did cry a lot watching. I do recommend you watch the first two God’s Not Dead movies before watching the third installment.
Be The Light–Share The Light Discussion Guide
Below is a discussion guide that goes along with the movie for churches hosting God’s Not Dead 3 Movie events. Please note, I haven’t reviewed the discussion guide at all. But, wanted to let people know there is a discussion guide for the movie.
